Let me make this a personal note. Anyone who has read my bio knows that I used to work at OPPO. I joined the company in 2015, after my Yahoo and TV5 stints. Throughout my stay at the Chinese tech giant, I had hoped for a flagship phone that would succeed the OPPO Find 7. I had left not seeing that hope fulfilled. But this year will probably be different. It’s but a natural progression for smartphones to eventually adopt a triple-camera setup at the back, just like the top-rated Huawei P20 Pro, because of advantages like enhanced low-light, image-detail, optical-zoom, wide-angle, and 3D-depth capabilities. We’ve heard Apple will be doing that. Today, that rumor gains ground with a report citing a research note from Deutsche Securities analyst Jialin Lu.

This phone beats the Huawei P20 in camera rankings

A newly launched smartphone has just outranked the Huawei P20 on DxOMark. The HTC U12+ scored 103, making it the best dual-rear-camera phone on the camera-ratings site. It mates a 12-megapixel 1/2.55-inch primary sensor with f/1.75 27mm-equivalent lens to a 16-megapixel 2x telephoto module with an f/2.6 aperture.

Samsung’s entry-level smartphones have been doing well thus far. It’s no wonder then that the Korean manufacturer is beefing up its lineup of more affordable Galaxy models. One of the units that it’s introducing next is the Samsung Galaxy J4, with a blank support page for the phone even up on the company’s Philippine website.
