In our inbox is an invite to the local launch of Nokia’s flagship smartphone. Look.
We don’t have to wait for long; September 29 is just a week away from today. Whether the Nokia 8 will be available on that date, too, remains to be seen. But if we are to base it on HMD Global’s strategy in Malaysia, we’ll probably be able to buy one at launch.

In our neighboring country, the Nokia 8 is priced at RM2,299, or approximately P27,725 or $548. Take note that that’s for the variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, not the higher-end version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in memory. So we’ll probably get the base model as well.

We won’t be surprised. After all, the Philippines is a price-sensitive country — one where Cherry Mobile, a local brand that’s known for selling mostly budget devices, is the biggest smartphone vendor.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the Nokia 8 features a 5.3-inch QHD screen, a 13-megapixel camera on the front, and another two 13-megapixel cameras on the back. The latter are borne out of Nokia’s rekindled partnership with Zeiss. The handset comes with a 3,090 mAh battery and runs pure Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with the option to upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo soon, hallelujah.
