WE reported recently that Xiaomi is collaborating with Google on the next Android One smartphone, which is supposed to sport the same hardware the Xiaomi Mi 5X introduced.

The software side of things will be different, of course, as Xiaomi’s Android One entry is expected to run stock Android, and in all probability, it will run Android Oreo.

But that’s not all that is tipped to be different: It will reportedly have an edge-to-edge screen, with almost no bezels around the display at all. Let the thought of a bezel-free and reasonably priced phone running vanilla Android simmer for a moment.

This rumor comes to us from a Weibo user who posted the following images to back his or her claim. They seem convincing enough. And it would make a lot of sense for Xiaomi to go out of its way to impress Google and the West, in particular the U.S. market — and eliminate pesky side bezels in the process. The leaker adds the handset will be going by the moniker Xiaomi Mi A1.

No additional information is immediately available at this time — no specific launch date, pricing, or availability information. Nonetheless, we imagine people would be absolutely thrilled to pick up an Android One device that looks as good as the unit pictured above.
