SONY Philippines released three of the four smartphones it launched at the Mobile World Congress — the Xperia XZ Premium, XZs, and XA1 — in May. But where’s the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra (click for complete specs)?

Good news: The variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage is already available at Sony stores and authorized dealers nationwide! But here’s the catch: Be prepared to shell out a bit more, as the device is on the expensive side, retailing at P21,990 (around $434).

There are two features that the company is highlighting here. First is the 6-inch full-HD screen with 2.5D glass. With a display that huge, the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra should be great for when you want to play games or watch your favorite shows.

The second selling point is the cameras. On the back is a 23-megapixel shooter with a large, 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS for Mobile sensor; hybrid auto-focus; and an f/2.0 lens. And on the front is a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, which should be standard for phones claiming to be selfie experts, as OIS helps in capturing blur-free images. You may take group selfies as well, because the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra’s front cam has a 23mm wide-angle lens.

At the heart of the smartphone is a MediaTek MT6757 Helio P20 chip, the same processor that powers the P14,990 ($296) Xperia XA1, its small sibling. It runs Android Nougat and features a 2,700mAh battery with fast-charging technology.

We’re wary of the battery capacity because a device with a huge screen — and with 1080 x 1920 resolution at that — may need more power to keep it on. But we’ll reserve our judgment until we get to use the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra. Who knows, actual usage may tell us a different story.
