Today, four days after Sony Philippines rolled out the Xperia XZs to local stores, we received word that the Japanese company’s 2017 flagship phone will be launched on May 23.
Recall that the 5.5-inch Sony Xperia XZ Premium was unveiled at MWC [Mobile World Congress] 2017. It is the world’s first smartphone with a 4K HDR display, which should translate to razor-sharp images. It is also the first to boast a 960fps slow-motion feature, something it shares with the XZs. Your typical handset can only do 240fps. According to Sony, this is how shooting in super slow motion with the device looks.
Powering the water- and dust-resistant Sony Xperia XZ Premium is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor paired with an Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB of RAM. Internal storage is set at 64GB, though you can still expand the space using a microSD card up to 256GB.
On the back is a 19-megapixel camera with a mobile sensor that features bigger pixels and a redesigned G Lens for higher optical clarity from corner to corner. Up front is a cam with a 13-megapixel count. We’ll reserve our judgment until we get to review the smartphone thoroughly.
No word on the Xperia XZ Premium’s price in the country yet, but in the United Kingdom, it will be retailing at £649 or about P42,000. Hopefully, we’ll get a better deal here.
