IT’S finally official. The OPPO F3, priced at P16,990 (roughly $341 or ₹21,841), got its own launch in the Philippines more than a month after the OPPO F3 Plus was unveiled in the country.

And just like its sibling, the F3 features the same two selfie cameras. A 16-megapixel sensor that sits behind an f/2.0 aperture lens takes care of the main images, and a secondary 8-megapixel camera provides a wider field of view for those times you want to take group selfies or, as OPPO Philippines calls it, “groufies.”

Why, then, is the OPPO F3 P7,000 (around $140 or ₹8,995) cheaper than the F3 Plus? Let’s take a look at this specs-comparison chart to see where their differences lie. (You can find a clearer version here.)

The most noticeable difference is in the size department, which you can already glean from the word “Plus” in the other unit’s model name. The OPPO F3 is a 5.5-incher, perfect when you have small hands like us. But if you are gunning for something that gives you more screen real estate to get a better viewing experience when watching movies or playing games, then the 6-inch OPPO F3 Plus is probably your match.

And if the latter gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor, a 4,000mAh battery, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and VOOC fast charging, the F3 is obviously watered down, so those who find the F3 Plus’ P23,990 (roughly $480 or ₹30,382) price tag too high can afford the just-launched phone. Consider: MediaTek MT6750T processor, 3,200mAh battery, and 13-megapixel rear camera — without OPPO’s VOOC fast-charging technology.

As with the OPPO F3 Plus, there are supposed to be three color variants of the F3 — gold, rose gold, and black — but only one has been announced to roll out to local stores thus far. According to OPPO Philippines, the gold unit will be available starting May 13.

The OPPO F3 is clearly aimed at people who want more from their phone’s front-facing camera but don’t want to pay a premium for the top-end specs that the F3 Plus comes with. Hopefully for OPPO, a versatile front-camera system isn’t all the F3 has to offer.
