Apparently, Apple will start building its own graphics chip.
The tech giant is just one of the few companies that make its own mobile processors. However, it doesn’t have entire control over the GPU.
Let’s take the graphics processor that can be found on the Apple A10 Fusion-powered iPhone 7 as an example. It is the same PowerVR GT7600 GPU that’s behind 2015’s iPhone 6s. While it can achieve high clock speeds, it can’t sustain the peak performance for very long, hence the belief that Apple has throttled the component to avoid overheating.
Even with that, the Apple iPhone 7 was discovered to still blow even the fastest Android phone out of the water. So the thought of an Apple-made GPU customized for the iPhone may excite users of the device.

However, this is bad news for Imagination, which relies on Apple for bulk of its revenue. In fact, when news of the impending split broke, the chipmaker’s share price fell by 69 percent.
We smell a brewing court battle here, especially when you take into account this part of the statement released by Imagination:
“Apple has not presented any evidence to substantiate its assertion that it will no longer require Imagination’s technology, without violating Imagination’s patents, intellectual property, and confidential information. This evidence has been requested by Imagination but Apple has declined to provide it.
Further, Imagination believes that it would be extremely challenging to design a brand new GPU architecture from basics without infringing its intellectual property rights, accordingly Imagination does not accept Apple’s assertions.”
