That number counts those who have paid 66 yuan (around P478 or $10) as deposit to ensure that they are among those who will get the device on the first day that it goes on sale. It also includes those who have opted for free registration. Now, you may scoff at a little over a million, but come to think of it, it’s a significant number, considering that the registration is only open to China-based customers. Online retailer JD.com, which is the country’s second-largest ecommerce site, does not ship to other places.
First look at the Nokia 6
The Nokia 6 is the first release from HMD Global under the household brand, which it has secured the rights to use. The phone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with an Adreno 505 GPU and 4GB of RAM and features 64GB of internal storage, a 5.5-inch full-HD screen, 16- and 8-megapixel rear and front cameras, a non-removable 3,000mAh battery, and Android 7.0 Nougat. Price is set at 1,699 yuan (roughly P12,300 or $247).
That makes it a midrange device, but it’s just HMD’s first step on the road to Nokia reclaiming its spot in the mobile world; the Finnish company is rumored to be launching a flagship model, dubbed Nokia 8, at the Mobile World Congress or MWC 2017 in February.
Will Nokia 6 go on sale in the Philippines?
We don’t know if this particular model will be available in the country. But some little birdies informed us that HMD is indeed looking at our market, and it has done so since last year. This is said to be because the Philippines is used to be a Nokia country. Judging from the comments of our readers, it seems that the interest in the brand is still high. Whether that will translate to sales will have to be seen.
According to our sources, a former employee at Nokia Philippines is already connected with HMD Philippines. They didn’t drop a name, though, so we have reached out to our contacts at the company before, asking if they know anyone who’s working at HMD now. Let’s see if we’ll get a positive reply.
