Infinix NOTE 50 Pro first impressions: Metal build, blazing-fast 90W charging

The wait is almost over for those in the Philippines eyeing the latest from Infinix.

The NOTE 50 Series — which comprises the Infinix NOTE 50, Infinix NOTE 50 Pro, and Infinix NOTE 50 Pro+ 5G — officially launches on April 23. Early buyers can get it first on Shopee starting April 24, before it rolls out to Lazada and TikTok Shop on April 30.

Early-bird exclusives

Infinix was kind enough to send us the 4G model of the NOTE 50 Pro a bit early, and after putting it through its paces, we’re finally ready to give you the lowdown on our initial impressions and see if this variant of the Infinix NOTE 50 lineup lives up to the buzz.

Seriously fast charging

Let’s talk charging, because the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro goes all out to minimize battery anxiety. This smartphone packs some impressive charging tech that you don’t usually see in this class. Most notably, it supports 90-watt wired charging, which claims to take you from zero to full in under 40 minutes.

And if you’re not into wires, the 30-watt wireless charging is still pretty fast, promising a full charge in around an hour and 43 minutes. Considering that massive 5,200mAh battery, that’s still quick. You can basically go from dead to fully charged in the time it takes to down your morning coffee or grab some lunch during your workday.

This model offers reverse charging, too. We’re talking 10-watt wired and 7.5-watt wireless. So, if your buddy’s phone is about to die or their wireless earbuds are flat, you can actually use your unit to give them a quick power boost.

Infinix has thrown in some smart battery features here as well. There’s bypass charging, letting you power the NOTE 50 Pro directly from the charger without actually charging the battery. This is clutch for gamers, because it keeps the phone cooler and helps preserve battery health. Then there’s Smart Night Charging that uses AI to learn your charging habits and prevent overcharging overnight, which should also help your battery last longer.

On top of all that, Infinix is boasting a six-year battery management system powered by its Cheetah X2 chip, claiming it can handle a whopping 2,300 charge cycles and still have over 80% battery health after four years. That’s seriously impressive and way beyond what most units offer.

All-metal, all impressive

Right off the bat, one of the first things that stands out about the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro 4G is the build quality. It’s the only phone in its price range – under P12,000 (roughly $212) – that comes with an ArmorAlloy aluminum frame. Going all-metal, the frame uses a mix of “Damascus steel and aerospace-grade aluminum alloy.” It sounds fancy, but apparently, this combo is supposed to be super tough against bumps and won’t corrode easily, even if things get a little sweaty. Plus, Infinix is making a point that it’s eco-friendly with recyclable bits. The metal frame even has a shock-absorbing inner structure that’s been certified by TÜV SÜD for drop resistance. Oh, and it’s IP64-rated, too, so you don’t have to freak out about dust or a little bit of splash.

Now, when you actually hold it, it feels great in the hand. The matte finish on the back rejects fingerprints well — way better than those glossy backs that turn into smudgy messes. The edges of the frame are also a little rounded, which just makes it sit nicer in your palm. It feels seriously solid. True to Infinix’s word, this device feels like it could take a beating. That decent IP rating also means you won’t have to baby it in the rain — a big plus if you live somewhere like the Philippines where the weather can flip on a dime.

Surprisingly, even with that pretty sizable 5,200mAh battery tucked inside, the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro is slim and light. We’re talking just 7.3mm thin (not counting the camera bump) and a featherweight 198 grams. This combo means one-handed use doesn’t feel like a total stretch, and you can actually wrap your fingers around it and hit those corners, sans the included case.

Bio-Active Halo AI Lighting does its little light show for calls, notifications, and when you’re charging

The rear panel of the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro features a bold camera layout. You’ve got dedicated holes for the main 50-megapixel shooter and the 8-megapixel ultrawide, plus another spot for the blood-oxygen and heart-rate sensor combo. If you think that’s unique, those sensors are ringed by a tiny multicolor LED. Infinix calls it the “Bio-Active Halo AI Lighting,” which does its little light show for calls, notifications, and when you’re charging.

Flipping it over to the front, you’re staring at a rather tall 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a super-smooth 144Hz refresh rate and an advertised peak brightness of 1,300 nits. For the price, it’s a nice-looking screen, and it’s even got an under-display fingerprint reader that’s quick and easy to use. More impressively, the NOTE 50 Pro’s 144Hz refresh rate is up there with the fastest in this class, and it makes swiping through menus and scrolling feel ridiculously smooth.

And because the display is AMOLED, you can expect it to really pop, with bright, punchy colors and deep, inky blacks. It honestly looks much better than some of the LCD screens you see on similarly priced smartphones. This display makes the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro a solid pick for gaming and binging movies on the go.

When night rolls around, this panel gets even smarter. It offers 2,340Hz PWM dimming, which basically means it can fine-tune the brightness at low levels super precisely and cut down on that annoying flicker. Plus, it’s got a low blue-light certification, so you can binge-watch into the wee hours without your eyes feeling totally fried.

You likewise get some smarts built into the screen that make sure it responds accurately even if your hands are a bit slick. Wet hands? Greasy from snacks? No problem, Infinix promises a touch experience that will still track your taps perfectly. That’s a win for anyone who’s ever tried to use their phone while cooking or after a workout especially in this Manila heat. Oh, and the NOTE 50 Pro’s got Always-On Display, too, so you can glance at notifications, the weather, and your step count without even waking it up.

But can it game? Call of Duty: Mobile test

Under the hood, the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro is running on a MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate 4G chipset, built on a pretty efficient 6nm process. The processor packs a couple of Cortex-A76 performance cores for when you need some muscle, alongside six Cortex-A55 cores for just cruising around. For graphics, you’re getting a Mali-G57. The unit we got our hands on packs 8GB of physical RAM and a pretty generous 256GB of onboard storage. Infinix is offering a higher-end 12GB/256GB variant of the NOTE 50 Pro as well, and we think that extra RAM is worth the added cost, because it means better future-proofing for resource-intensive apps and games.

The brand is making some noise about this being a great pick for Call of Duty: Mobile, so naturally, that was the first thing we fired up. And honestly? It held its own. On Medium graphics, we were seeing decent FPS in Battle Royale mode, which isn’t bad at all when you’ve got a hundred players running around. We even threw Genshin Impact at our review unit, and it managed around 40 FPS on Low settings. Not mind-blowing, but definitely playable.

But here’s where things get interesting: The Infinix NOTE 50 Pro has this massive VC heat-dissipation system. We’re talking a whopping 12,326mm² spread across 11 layers, and it’s supposed to keep the phone up to 10°C cooler to stop it from throttling when things get intense. And you know what? It actually works. After a solid 30-minute gaming session, this device barely got warm. So, while the Helio G100 Ultimate isn’t going to win any top-tier speed races, it’s good to see it doesn’t turn into a pocket furnace when you’re pushing the graphics, and you can definitely get stable performance with the right settings.

Just like with its other smartphones, Infinix has thrown in its own XBOOST Game Assistant. Think of it as a souped-up gaming AI that’s supposed to make your mobile gaming life better. It’s got different presets like Power Saving, a Balanced mode (they call it Equilibrium), and a full-on Performance mode, so you can always dial things in for whatever you’re playing.

Think of Infinix’s XBOOST Game Assistant as a souped-up gaming AI that’s designed to make your mobile gaming life better

What’s really cool is that XBOOST gives you some serious control, like letting you remap those physical volume buttons for gaming. Picture having your map on the volume up and reload on volume down. That’s a neat advantage in shooters like Call of Duty: Mobile. And for those who play MOBAs like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, the E-Sports-Grade Control feature lets you fine-tune how sensitive the screen is to your taps and swipes, which could be the difference between winning and losing.

The Infinix NOTE 50 Pro comes with its own “one-tap AI assistant,” Folax, and it’s surprisingly not bad. You fire it up with a long press of the power button, and it does more than just the usual stuff like setting alarms or telling you if it’s raining in your area. This AI can actually summarize articles you’re reading in Chrome, crack jokes (your mileage may vary on those, of course), and even write entire emails for you.

We had to see if it was legit, so we tasked Folax with drafting a complaint letter for a busted gadget, and the result? Pretty impressive. It whipped up a well-written letter that we could actually see ourselves sending, and it even reminded us to attach a copy of the receipt. Smart.

You also get a bunch of other AI-powered features baked in, like object cutout for your photos, translation tools, audio-recording smarts, call summaries and translations, even the ability to generate wallpapers — pretty much every AI trick you can think of. Plus, you’ve got Google’s handy Circle to Search function.

Early impressions

Wrapping things up, the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro definitely makes a strong first impression, ticking a lot of boxes for a phone in its class. From that surprisingly premium all-metal build that feels like it can handle everyday life (and maybe even a few accidental drops) to the vibrant and smooth AMOLED display that’s a treat for the eyes, there’s a lot to like right out of the gate. While it might not be a flagship gaming beast, this NOTE model shows it can definitely hold its own in popular titles without turning into a hot potato.

But arguably the standout feature here is that ridiculously fast charging. Seriously, the promise of going from zero to full in under 40 minutes could be a genuine game-changer for anyone constantly battling a low battery. We’re definitely intrigued to spend more time with the Infinix NOTE 50 Pro and see how it holds up in daily use, but these initial hands-on moments suggest the company might have a compelling contender on its hands.

Now, while Infinix hasn’t dropped the official peso price tag for the smartphone just yet, although we’re told that the variant with 24GB of extended RAM (12GB physical RAM + 12GB virtual RAM) and 256GB of storage will cost under P12,000 ($212), there’s a little something extra for those who jump in early. If you purchase any phone from the Infinix NOTE 50 Series from official online stores, you’ll score a free one-year subscription to Viu while supplies last.
