OPPO just dropped its latest volley in the never-ending smartphone spec war, unveiling the OPPO Find X8 Ultra alongside the more compact OPPO Find X8s and OPPO Find X8s Plus siblings in China.
As expected, the Ultra is gunning for the camera crown with a spec sheet that reads like a photographer’s wish list, while the X8s duo tries to prove that you don’t need palm-stretching dimensions for flagship power.
The OPPO Find X8 Ultra immediately grabs attention with its claim of being the “thinnest flagship cameraphone” at 8.78mm. That’s a noticeable slim-down from its predecessor, yet the company somehow crammed in an even bigger 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery. How durable this svelte package is remains to be seen, but OPPO is touting both IP68 and IP69 water-and-dust-resistance ratings, plus a five-star drop resistance certification from SGS. Because accidents happen.
Powering this glass-and-metal sandwich is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 5G chip, paired with LPDDR5X RAM of up to 16GB and UFS 4.1 storage of up to 1TB. The display is largely unchanged — a gorgeous 6.82-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED panel that dynamically shifts between 1Hz and 120Hz — which isn’t a bad thing. OPPO also added two new physical buttons: a customizable Shortcut key on the left and a camera-focused Quick button on the right, seemingly taking a leaf out of Apple’s Action Button playbook, though the Quick key adds some dedicated camera-control gestures.

Of course, the main event for any Ultra model is the camera system. OPPO retains the massive 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor for the main camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide. The real focus here seems to be on the dual periscope telephoto lenses, though. Both have 50-megapixel counts, but OPPO has upgraded the 3x zoom with a brighter f/2.1 lens and the 6x zoom (~135mm) with a larger sensor and a significantly brighter f/3.1 lens. Combined with Hasselblad tuning and the brand’s latest HyperTone Image Engine (or is it Lumo now?), the promise is stellar zoom performance and accurate colors, even in tricky lighting. Selfies are handled by a 32-megapixel shooter.
For those who find the Find X8 Ultra a bit much, OPPO offers the Find X8s and Find X8s Plus. These aim for a more compact feel without skimping too much on the internals. The X8s rocks a 6.32-inch FHD+ AMOLED, while the X8s Plus bumps that slightly to 6.59 inches. Both share the same 120Hz refresh rate and impressive IP68/IP69 ratings as the Ultra.
The two devices are the first to pack a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus processor, an overclocked beast that should trade blows with Qualcomm’s best, alongside up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage (though it’s slightly slower UFS 4.0 here). Battery sizes differ slightly — 5,700mAh for the OPPO Find X8s and 6,000mAh for the OPPO Find X8s Plus — but both get fast 80-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging. They also support something called the Mag Magnetic Ecosystem, which reminds us of a MagSafe-like accessory system using a proprietary case.
Camera-wise, the X8s duo shares a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilization and a 50-megapixel ultrawide. The telephoto lens is where they diverge: the Find X8s gets a 50-megapixel shooter with an 85mm equivalent focal length, while the Find X8s Plus opts for a slightly shorter 73mm equivalent. Both feature dual-axis OIS. It’s a solid triple-camera setup designed to be versatile without the Ultra’s sheer lens count.

All three phones run ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. Pricing in China starts at ¥6,499 (roughly P50,802 or $889) for the OPPO Find X8 Ultra, climbing to ¥7,999 (P62,527 or $1,094) for the top spec with satellite connectivity. The OPPO Find X8s and OPPO Find X8s Plus, on the other hand, share a starting price of ¥4,199 (P32,823 or 574), topping out at ¥5,499 (P42,985 or $752).
Now for the usual caveat: availability. The Find X7 Ultra was exclusive to China, and early signs suggest the Find X8 Ultra might suffer the same fate. While importers will inevitably offer it globally, official support and network compatibility might be dicey. The Find X8s series has a slightly better chance of being released globally, possibly following the pattern of the standard OPPO Find X8 and OPPO Find X8 Pro which did see a global release last year. For now, though, if you’re outside mainland China, just like us who are based here in the Philippines, you’ll have to wait and see if OPPO decides to share all of its latest flagships with the rest of the world.
