Local telecom operator Globe is rolling out a new service under its Globe At Home broadband platform.
The Globe At Home 5G WiFi, which had a soft launch last December and is currently prepaid-only, is designed to give customers a top-notch experience. To make this happen, Globe teamed up with rainx, a global tech company from South Africa, to supply the 5G smart routers.
So, what’s special about the devices? Globe is using rainx’s 101 Pro and 101 5G routers, plus the 101 Xtender smart mesh WiFi extender. These work together to give you consistent, high-speed internet throughout your home or office.
We haven’t had a chance to fully test these 101 models yet, but from what Globe and rainx executives say, they’re designed to be super user-friendly. Think of them like the Apple iPhones of modems: plug-and-play, easy to set up, and can even be troubleshooted remotely through rainx’s platform. The platform also lets Globe provide proactive support and communicate directly with customers through the modem’s touchscreen. Additionally, you can skip those long passwords and just scan a QR code on the screen to connect.
While Globe didn’t give us specific speed-test numbers, they assured us they’ll meet the minimum speed and reliability standards set by Philippine law. One thing to note is that the modems are geolocked to a 5-km radius, or a few cell towers, to keep the service quality high.

Here’s a cool touch: Globe is offering 101 skins featuring artwork by Philippine National Artists like Larry Alcala, Vicente Manansala, Abdulmari and Toym Imao, and Botong Francisco. These are designed to sit on your center table, not tucked away in some corner. If anything, the custom designs transform the routers from a purely functional gadget into a conversation starter, a piece of decor you’d be proud to display.

Under the hood, the 101 routers pack powerful MediaTek chips. The 101 Pro, the top-of-the-line model, uses an MTK T830 chip and boasts fast sub-6Ghz 5G speeds, up to 7 Gbps. It also features the latest Wi-Fi 7. It can combine multiple signals for even faster speeds as well. The regular 101 model is powered by an MTK T750 and still delivers a punch with Wi-Fi 6 and can combine two signals for solid performance.
If you’re interested, you can apply at Globe stores and supposedly on their website, though we found a working link on Facebook, which we shared in one of our image captions here. Your area will be checked for 5G coverage before your application is approved. Right now, you can get up to 250GB of data for 30 days at P899 (around $16), plus a P1,100 ($20) device deposit.
And here’s a nice perk: You can try it risk-free. If you’re not happy within seven days, you can get a full refund of the P1,100 ($20) deposit and the P899 ($16) promo, as long as the modem is returned in good condition.
