Get your wallets ready! The Nintendo Switch 2 finally has a release date. It’s set to launch on June 5, 2025, with preorders starting as early as April 9.
In its latest Nintendo Direct, the company announced the Switch 2 launches for $449.99 (around P25,728 converted). There’s also a bundle with the console and Mario Kart World for $499.99 (P28,587). The game alone will cost $79.99 (P4,573), representing an unfortunate $10 (P572) increase on Nintendo‘s current top-priced Switch game.
That’s not all, though. Nintendo’s Southeast Asia Facebook page also revealed the Switch 2 will arrive between July and September 2025 here in the Philippines as well as in Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. Not only that, Nintendo recently confirmed that it is working to bring online services like Nintendo Switch Online and the eShop to these countries. For those of us in the Philippines, this could mean a local eShop before or after the Switch 2’s launch.
New hardware and features
The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution. If you want better visuals, its upgraded dock supports 4K resolution and up to 120fps gameplay. The latest Joy-Cons, which snap onto the Switch 2 magnetically, look familiar but introduce features like mouse control. The right Joy-Con also has a new C button for GameChat, a paid service that lets you talk to friends while playing. Plus, there’s GameShare, allowing you to play with friends who don’t own the game.

Backwards compatibility and upgraded games
The Switch 2 is backwards compatible, meaning you can still play your old Switch games on the system. However, the company is also releasing Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of some popular games, which will have better graphics, new ways to play, and more.
Here are the Nintendo published games getting Switch 2 Editions:
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land
- Metroid Prime 4 Beyond
- Pokemon Legends: Z-A
- Super Mario Party Jamboree
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Nintendo also announced some third-party games coming to the Switch 2, like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2027: Ultimate Edition, Borderlands 4, Star Wars Outlaws, and NBA 2K. Indeed, the upcoming console is shaping up to be a major upgrade, with exciting new features and a strong lineup of exclusive and third-party games.
