ASUS has introduced a new — and more wallet-friendly — member of the ROG Phone 9 family in Thailand: the ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE.
It’s essentially a cheaper gateway into ASUS’s latest gaming phone lineup. But, as always, there’s a catch: It’s packing last year’s flagship Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. Instead of the cutting-edge 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset found in the standard and Pro ROG Phone 9 models, the FE sports the previous-generation 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the same chip powering last year’s ROG Phone 8 series.

The ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE is hitting shelves in Thailand for ฿29,990 (around $843 or P51,810). You can buy one through the company’s official online store. For now, it looks like Phantom Black is the only color option.
There’s no official word on a Philippine release, but it’s likely we’ll see it in other Asian markets eventually. The big question is price. The ROG Phone 8, with the same Snapdragon chip, started at P50,995 ($880) in the Philippines. Hopefully, the FE will land at a more competitive price point.

The ASUS ROG Phone 9 FE might be the budget option, but it’s not skimping on the design or hardware feautres. It shares the exact same dimensions as the ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro, though it is a tad lighter. And, surprisingly, it even keeps the 341 programmable micro LEDs on the back, just like the standard model, letting you customize the lighting with unique animations.
Beyond the light show, the FE edition also packs a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a maximum refresh rate of 185Hz, dual stereo speakers, IP68 dust and water resistance, a headphone jack, and a 5,500mAh battery that supports 65-watt wired fast charging. For taking pictures, the gaming smartphone boasts a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 sensor as its main camera.
