GOMO just made switching to its all-digital service even easier: You can now grab an eSIM directly through the app.
The Globe Telecom-backed MVNO (think: telco, but entirely in your phone) in the Philippines quietly rolled out the option, letting you ditch the plastic and go fully digital.
For the uninitiated, an eSIM is essentially a SIM card baked right into your device. No tiny (or nano?) pieces of plastic to fumble with — just a digital profile that activates your cellular plan. This means you can juggle multiple numbers on a single smartphone, assuming your device supports eSIM functionality and isn’t locked to a specific carrier.
GOMO’s eSIM will set you back P399 (around $7), matching the price of its physical SIM, and comes loaded with 30GB of data that, crucially, doesn’t expire. It’s also 5G-ready where available, and falls back to nationwide LTE coverage when you’re outside 5G areas.
So, you’ve purchased a GOMO eSIM, or any eSIM, for that matter. How do you actually get it working? Here’s how you can activate it on your device:
For iOS models:
- Go online. Head to Settings > Cellular > Set Up Cellular or Add eSIM.
- Scan the QR code GOMO emailed you.
- Tap “Add Cellular Plan” (ignore any pop-ups and just hit “OK”).
- Fire up the GOMO app, tap “Activate your SIM,” and follow the on-screen prompts to register your eSIM.
For Android units (your mileage may vary depending on the device manufacturer):
- Connect to the internet. Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager.
- Select “Add Mobile Plan” then “Scan Carrier QR Code.”
- Scan the QR code from GOMO’s email.
- Jump into the GOMO app, tap “Activate your SIM,” and follow the steps to register your eSIM.
The beauty of eSIMs is their inherent convenience. No more tiny SIM trays, no more lost or damaged cards. It’s all software, making switching carriers and recovering a lost device a little less of a headache.
