Samsung Finance Plus: Get your dream Galaxy device now, pay later

In Business by Ramon LopezLeave a Comment

Owning the Samsung device of your dreams is now easier than ever. Or at least, that’s the plan with Samsung‘s micro-financing platform, powered by UnionBank of the Philippines.

With Samsung Finance Plus, you can practically walk out the door with a Galaxy Z Fold6 in hand. Samsung Finance Plus is an application-based financing program, built in collaboration with UnionBank and supervised by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

This application makes it easier for you to bypass the usual financial hurdles to acquiring your desired Galaxy product. Zero interest? Check. No down payment? Check. Processing fees? None.

Just flash any one of the government-issued documents below, and you could be approved for a loan of up to a whopping P120,000 (around $2,056), allowing you to purchase a Samsung Galaxy tablet or foldable, like the Galaxy Z Flip6 or even the Galaxy Z Fold6, if you want. Though, let’s be real, your credit score better be sparkling to score the company’s latest top-end foldable.

  • Passport with signature
  • Driver’s license
  • Unified Multipurpose ID or UMID
  • Philsys ID

Paying off your Galaxy splurge is a breeze, too. Samsung has hooked up with multiple online partners, from GCash and Grab to Bayad Center, and you can even pay the old-fashioned way at SM and Robinsons department stores.

Obviously, there’s a catch — and it’s a pretty big one. The Korean technology giant’s leveraging its Knox security platform to, well, lock your device if you miss a payment. Once you settle up, your unit gets unlocked.

Samsung’s micro-financing program isn’t exactly new. The brand has been testing it out in India since 2019, and apparently, it’s a hit. According to Carl Nordenberg, Samsung’s vice president and regional head of mobile business for Southeast Asia and Oceania, half of the company’s Indian Finance Plus customers are new to credit.

That’s a pretty interesting tidbit. It suggests that Samsung’s not just making it easier to buy phones, it’s also actively bringing people into the world of credit. And knowing Samsung, it’s probably just getting started.
