The Philippine smartphone market continues to be a dynamic battleground, with Chinese brands flexing their muscles and shaking up the status quo. According to the latest report from the International Data Corporation, Transsion solidified its position as the top smartphone vendor in the country for the third quarter of 2024.

Transsion, which is the holding company for TECNO, Infinix, and Itel, captured a whopping 37% market share, a significant jump from its already impressive performance in previous quarters. This translated to a staggering 63% year-on-year growth, driven by the firm’s focus on budget-friendly devices that cater to the price-conscious Filipino consumer.

But Transsion wasn’t the only Chinese vendor making waves. realme, with its aggressive product launches and focus on delivering value-for-money phones, secured the second spot with a 17% market share. This represented a 10% year-on-year growth for the brand, fueled by popular models like the realme GT 6, realme 13 Series 5G, and realme Note 50.

OPPO, another strong contender in the Philippine market, took the third spot with an 11% market share and a respectable 7% year-on-year growth. Xiaomi followed closely behind with a 10% market share, demonstrating a remarkable 33% annual growth. Samsung, on the other hand, came in fifth place with a 10% market share.

Interestingly, IDC’s Q3 2024 findings painted a slightly different picture compared to the recent Canalys report. While both highlighted Transsion’s dominance, IDC placed realme in second place, ahead of OPPO. This discrepancy could be attributed to differences in data collection methodologies and the specific brands included in each firm’s analysis.
