Infinix HOT 50 Pro+ first impressions: So sleek, so good?

In Phones by Ramon LopezLeave a Comment

Infinix is bringing the HOT 50 Pro+ to the Philippines on October 28, promising a sleek design and impressive specs at an exceptionally competitive price.

This phone is one of the slimmest we’ve seen in its class, and it’s packing a 120Hz curved AMOLED display — a feature usually reserved for more expensive devices. Under the hood, you’ll find MediaTek’s Helio G100 processor, which should provide enough power for everyday tasks and gaming. In fact, Infinix claims the HOT 50 Pro+ will stay smooth and responsive for years to come, thanks to its TÜV SÜD 5-Year Fluency Certification. The brand is also sweetening the deal for Filipino gamers with an Honor of Kings themed box sleeve, exclusive wallpaper, and a raffle card for its local promotion.

Available in Sleek Black, Titanium Grey, and Dreamy Purple colors, the Infinix HOT 50 Pro+ will retail for under P9,000 (around $155), we’re told. Could this be the new value champion? We’ll have to wait for the review embargo to lift to say for sure. But for now, we can share our initial impressions, focusing on the smartphone’s key hardware features.

Long-term value in a short-term market

Infinix has opted for MediaTek’s Helio G100 to power the HOT 50 Pro+. This budget-minded midrange chipset, announced in August 2024, aims to deliver a balance of performance and efficiency. Built on TSMC’s 6nm process, it should be relatively kind to the battery. The Helio G100 features an octa-core CPU with two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz for demanding tasks and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz for everyday use. Graphics are handled by a dual-core Mali-G57 GPU, which should be capable of running most games at respectable settings.

We’ll have more detailed performance analysis in our full review, but we did get a chance to do some preliminary gaming tests on the Infinix HOT 50 Pro+. Surprisingly, Honkai: Star Rail, Wreckfest, and even the recently released Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm mobile game all ran at a decent clip. That’s pretty impressive for a smartphone at this price point, especially considering how demanding those games are.

In everyday use, the HOT 50 Pro+ felt responsive enough, even with multiple apps running in the background. We’ll be putting it through more rigorous testing to see how it holds up over time, but so far, the Helio G100 seems to be doing a decent job.

Infinix is also making some bold claims about the HOT 50 Pro+’s longevity. This model has apparently earned a TÜV SÜD 5-Year Fluency Certification, meaning it’s supposed to stay smooth and responsive for years to come. That’s not something you usually see on the specs sheet, let alone in this price range, so we’re definitely curious to see if it holds up. The brand says this long-term performance is thanks to optimized hardware and software, along with a focus on overall system durability. But, as always, the real test will be in long-term use.

So sleek, so light

Infinix says it is pushing the boundaries of smartphone design, and the HOT 50 Pro+ is the culmination of that vision. With the brand’s Feather-Like Design philosophy, the company has crafted a phone that’s impressively sleek and lightweight. We’ll have to spend more time with it to see how this design impacts usability and durability, but our initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive.

Only 6.8mm thin

At just 6.8mm thin and weighing a mere 162 grams, the Infinix HOT 50 Pro+ is easily one of the most comfortable handsets we’ve handled recently. It’s almost unbelievable that a device this thin and light can be priced under P10,000 ($174).

So, how did Infinix achieve this engineering feat? Well, it’s complicated. Think of it as a microscopic game of Tetris, where every internal component has been meticulously arranged to maximize space. Infinix has also developed a battery with a higher energy density, allowing it to pack more power into a smaller footprint.

But it’s not just about clever engineering; Infinix also wants to reassure us that the HOT 50 Pro+ is built to last. Despite its delicate appearance, the unit has undergone rigorous testing to ensure it can handle the rigors of daily life. And to further bolster its durability, Infinix has opted for Corning’s Gorilla Glass to protect that curved AMOLED display.

Curved AMOLED with 120Hz refresh on a budget phone is a win

Elsewhere, the Infinix HOT 50 Pro+’s display is shaping up to be a real highlight. That 6.78-inch curved AMOLED panel is a beauty, boasting vibrant colors, full DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio for an immersive experience. This screen has also thrown in some extras, like an always-on display for quickly glancing at notifications and an embedded fingerprint sensor for biometric unlocking.

But Infinix didn’t stop there. The display is also packed with features designed to minimize eye strain. Not only does it have a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth and responsive scrolling and gaming, but it’s also earned TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue-light emissions. And to further reduce potential eye fatigue, the brand has included 2,160Hz PWM dimming. It’s not often you see this level of attention to eye comfort in a budget phone, so kudos to Infinix for prioritizing user well-being.
