Every year, we hoop heads ask ourselves the same questions about Visual Concepts’ NBA 2K series. Has it really changed this time? Is the new NBA 2K25 worth dropping serious cash on, or is it just a roster update with a jersey swap?

Well, fellow virtual ballers, we’ve hit the court with NBA 2K25, which is out now on consoles and PC, and our verdict is in. Check out our review video for the full breakdown. Spoiler alert: The microtransactions and VC grind are still annoying, and it seems that farming the game’s digital currency is going to take a lot of work.

On the bright side, though, NBA 2K25 offers some serious silver linings that might just make this game worth your while. For starters, the on-court presentation has been upgraded, and somehow, the game looks even better this time around. There are a ton of updated and newly added face scans and courts and additional color commentary. You’ll hear more voices this year, too, including Shams Charania dropping insider knowledge and coach-turned-broadcaster Stan Van Gundy bringing that expert analysis. It all adds up to a more immersive and authentic experience.

A big part of that is the amount of new animations — they added a whopping 9,000 new ProPlay animations to 2K25. That means the players move with more realism than ever before. Combine that with the tweaked player-to-court ratio, which makes the court feel massive, and you’ve got a game that looks like a legit NBA broadcast. And yeah, we know, the series has always been pushing the visual envelope, but this year, NBA 2K25 has really taken it to another level.

Anyhow, the game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. But before you drop your hard-earned cash, make sure you do your homework. Read up on some reviews — including ours! — see what other players are saying, and decide if it’s the right game for you. And hey, don’t be shy! Hit us up in the comments, and let us know if you’re already tearing up the court in 2K25 or if you’re planning to purchase it soon.

One more thing: We reviewed the $70 standard edition of the game on Microsoft’s current-gen console, so if you’re on Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 and looking for some online competition, feel free to send us a friend request.
