ASUS Philippines has officially launched the ROG Ally X, its latest gaming handheld and mid-generation refresh of the original Ally.

Available starting today, August 23, the ASUS ROG Ally X has a suggested retail price of P56,995 (roughly $1,010) in the country for the sole configuration with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. You can get it through authorized ROG Exclusive Stores nationwide. Each purchase includes a complimentary three-month PC Game Pass subscription and the ASUS 4A Quality and Service warranty package and Preventive Maintenance Service for your peace of mind.

The ASUS ROG Ally X at a glance

As mentioned earlier, the ASUS ROG Ally X isn’t a full-fledged sequel but a mid-cycle refresh. While it retains the core components of its predecessor, it introduces several significant improvements. The most notable upgrade is the battery, which now boasts a massive capacity, possibly doubling the endurance of the original Ally.

Beyond the battery, the device features increased RAM to 24GB for smoother performance, a repositioned SD card reader to prevent issues caused by heat exposure, and a new black chassis with improved ergonomics for a more comfortable grip. The new design has rounded corners and deeper grips without adding bulk to the unit.

The ROG Ally X also boasts a refined control layout and enhanced I/O capabilities. The buttons and sticks are now arranged at a slightly more ergonomic angle, and the triggers have a slight slant for easier pressing. Additionally, the macro buttons on the back have been reduced in size to minimize accidental presses while remaining easily accessible.

For improved durability and responsiveness, the joysticks have been upgraded with new, more durable modules rated for a 5-million-cycle lifespan. These modules feature stiffer springs, providing a more familiar response curve for longtime controller gamers. The D-Pad has likewise been improved to offer more precise eight-direction input, making it ideal for fighting and retro games.

The ASUS ROG Ally X is packed with ports. It’s got two USB-C ports, one of which can connect to powerful external graphics cards. Plus, there’s a headphone jack for traditional audio connections.

The same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip and 7-inch 1080p 120Hz display from the original Ally are present here, but they’re now coupled with an increased 24GB of 7500mhz LPDDR5X memory for improved performance. Based on our short time with the handheld PC, the altered cooling on the unit results in fans that stay relatively quiet, even during demanding software scenarios.

However, the most significant improvement is the battery, which has been doubled in capacity. The ROG Ally X now boasts a massive 80Wh battery, making it one of the longest-lasting handheld gaming devices on the market. For context, that’s larger than the battery in some gaming laptops! Despite this substantial increase, the device only weighs slightly more than its predecessor at 70 grams.
