vivo Philippines is set to release another entry-level, camera-centric model in its affordable Y series.

This time, it’s the upgrade to the vivo Y18, which the company just announced on the local market last month. The new vivo Y28 will be available in the Philippines from June 15, with a starting price of just P7,999 (around $136 converted) for the variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage.

The higher-end 16GB/256GB version will cost P9,999 ($170), with an introductory price of P7,499 ($128) if you buy it on Shopee. The Y28 comes in Gleaming Orange and Agate Green colors, featuring a high-gloss metallic middle frame and vivo’s Dynamic Light LED interface on the back. For comparison, the Y18 sold for P6,499 ($111) at launch.

Specs-wise, the vivo Y28 is powered by a 12nm MediaTek Helio G85 chipset that runs the brand’s Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14 software out of the box. It’s the same chip inside the Y18 and many other budget smartphones, and, unfortunately, it’s also limited to 4G data. The cameras on the front and back don’t see an upgrade, either — there’s a 50-megapixel rear image sensor and an 8-megapixel camera for selfies.

The vivo Y28 packs a bigger display, though, sporting a 6.68-inch HD+ LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. The screen offers up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness in High Brightness Mode, a slight upgrade over the Y18’s 840-nit panel.

The battery capacity gets a boost, too, with a 6,000mAh cell that supports fast charging up to 44 watts. According to vivo, the battery should be good enough for 39.7 hours of Facebook use and 34.6 hours of PUBG gameplay, likely at the lowest settings available. Additionally, the company touts up to four years of good battery health for the vivo Y28. This translates to the battery capacity staying at no less than 80% after 1,600 charge cycles.
