The Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 might be the stars of Samsung‘s Galaxy Unpacked event last week, but there’s another thing worth taking note of.
The South Korean technology giant is broadening its wearable range through the Samsung Galaxy Ring, which the company teased in San Jose, California, a few days ago. And it was just that — a teaser, saying the product is a powerful and accessible health and wellness device and showing us how it looks.
But now we know a bit more about the smart ring. One post that flew under our radar is that of tech analyst Avi Greengart, who used to lead market-research teams at GlobalData, Current Analysis, and JupiterResearch, and is now the president at Techsponential. He was one of the few people who were able to get their hands on a prototype of the Samsung Galaxy Ring. He said the wearable is light, comes in three finishes, and will be launched later this year. It should be offered in sizes up to 13, or 22.2mm.

‘Later this year.’ Could that be at the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event?
We wonder whether the device will be available in our size — 6 or 16.45mm — as well. But here’s to hoping it will, because we do love to try one again. This is embarrassing, but the last time we did was when we wore Logbar’s Ring at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.
We agree with Samsung MX head TM Roh when he said there are those who don’t like to wear bulky smartwatches while sleeping; something like the Galaxy Ring might be more convenient for them. And that means a more accurate tracking of one’s health and fitness data over time. A heavyweight like Samsung entering the category could lead to the popularization of the said wearable form factor.
We imagine the Samsung Galaxy Ring to indeed have “leading sensor technologies” and be something that you can pair with a Galaxy smartwatch and smartphone. Priced at a premium, too, maybe, as with the brand’s other products. Hopefully, it will be released in developing countries like the Philippines as well.
