ASUS has dropped a new teaser video for its next-generation gaming phone, the ASUS ROG Phone 8, which will be unveiled on January 8 (or January 9, if you live in the Philippines) during the company’s keynote at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show or CES in Las Vegas.
(Update, January 10: The ASUS ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro have been launched!)
The latest trailer for the ROG Phone 8 confirms the upcoming smartphone’s peak brightness, which will hit 2,500 nits, up from the ASUS ROG Phone 7‘s 1,500-nit AMOLED screen. On paper, the advertised brightness should make outdoor use more comfortable, while also possibly extending the ASUS ROG Phone 8’s battery life, as it won’t require a lot of power to make the panel sufficiently bright for outside viewing.
The device is already confirmed to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, joining the likes of the RedMagic 9 Pro and RedMagic 9 Pro Plus gaming phones, Xiaomi 14 series, and realme GT5 Pro. ASUS has also openly advertised its camera prowess via an online blind photo test, where participants who register as an ASUS member before voting stand a chance to win their own ROG Phone 8.

See you January 8!
According to the contest microsite, the handset will launch with a “pro-level” camera that “blends innovation with excellence, and includes some remarkable camera enhancements.” The gaming-focused device will sport a redesigned camera module at the back with three lenses that are not lined up horizontally, breaking the trend set by previous ROG Phone models.
Recently, a leak from Windows Report gave us our best look at the ASUS ROG Phone 8 and ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro, which will allegedly feature a new — and more mainstream-looking — rear design with RGB lights and smaller display bezels. Interestingly, the leaked renders showcase a similar camera island to the one featured in the official teaser, further lending credibility to the report.
