Here's where to buy a Globe prepaid eSIM by end-Sept 2023

Smart Communications may have offered the first prepaid eSIM in the Philippines, launching it in July this year, but Globe introduced the embedded Subscriber Identification Module to the local market in 2018, albeit to postpaid consumers.

By the end of September, though, the Ayala-led telecommunications company says it will make its prepaid digital-only SIM available for purchase to ensure that its customers are “spared the inconvenience of store visits or physical SIM delivery.”

You read that right. No store visits, no physical SIM delivery. You can only buy a Globe prepaid eSIM via the GlobeOne app. In case you don’t have the free app yet, you may download it on Apple’s App Store, Google’s Play Store, or Huawei’s AppGallery. Create a GlobeOne account afterwards. You can request for a prepaid eSIM as soon as it’s launched.

The Smart prepaid eSIM is priced at P99 (around $1.75) and comes with 21GB of data, plus free calls and texts to all networks for seven days. We’re already looking forward to knowing how much Globe’s will cost and what the inclusions are.

There are a few things to take note of:

Not all devices are like Apple iPhones and the Samsung Galaxy S23 series smartphones, which are eSIM-compatible, so check first if your unit is supported.
The eSIM can be used not only in mobile phones but also devices such as smartwatches. The Apple Watch is one of them, allowing Globe prepaid iPhone users to go out with just their Apple watch and stay connected even without bringing their iPhone. We’re guessing the telco is rolling out the prepaid eSIM in time for the Philippine launch of the Apple iPhone 15 series, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
You can install multiple eSIMs on selected devices and use two phone numbers at the same time.
