The Xiaomi MIX Fold 3, the world’s top 3 smartphone vendor’s upcoming flagship foldable, will launch on August 14.

The new folding phone is set to be officially revealed when Xiaomi cofounder and CEO Lei Jun delivers his annual speech next week, probably alongside the Xiaomi Pad 6 Max and Redmi K60 Ultra. Like its predecessors, the MIX Fold 3 is expected to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the foldable space, particularly with regard to perfecting the lineup’s hinge design and folding technology.

Xiaomi announces its third-generation foldable’s launch date

Last year’s Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 introduced one of the thinnest foldables on the market, with the phone boasting a slim 11.2mm profile. This time around, the MIX Fold 3 hints at a new hinge mechanism that could allow for a lighter, slimmer, and more durable foldable phone with less moving parts.

Based on the official teasers, it seems the device is only about as thick as a USB-C port when it is unfolded, just like the Huawei Mate X3, which impressed us earlier this year. It surely looks like it will be slimmer than the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 that has been put in the spotlight as of late for offering incremental updates on almost all of the hardware aspects of the device.

How the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 looks

The Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 has been confirmed to arrive with a Leica-branded camera system with four rear lenses, including one periscope telephoto lens. Meanwhile, at least one variant of the smartphone uses vegan leather at the back, adding a luxurious touch to the overall aesthetic.

The company has not yet revealed plans for an international release, but don’t get your hopes up. Similar to the MIX Fold 2, the upcoming model might be exclusive to the Chinese market. Recall that the base MIX Fold 2 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage had a suggested retail price of ¥8,999 (about P70,269 or $1,249 converted) at launch in China.
