Preorders for NBA 2K24 will go live July 7 (that’s July 8 in the Philippines, in case you’re wondering) for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Three editions of the popular basketball video game have been announced — those being the Standard Edition, the Kobe Bryant Edition, and the Black Mamba (read: Ultimate) Edition.
Perhaps more importantly, the upcoming iteration of the basketball sim will bring something no other NBA 2K game has offered in the past: online cross-play. That means PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners will now be able to play against each other online and participate in in-game activities together. That’s huge news and something the entire NBA 2K community has been looking forward to for a long time.
It remains to be seen if cross-play on NBA 2K24 will also open its doors to PC players, but we honestly don’t see that happening unless 2K updates the PC version with current-gen features and graphics. Considering how rampant cheating is on NBA 2K23 for PC even today — almost a year after the game was released — we wouldn’t hold our breath.

Preorder announcement
A version of NBA 2K24 for the Nintendo Switch hasn’t been announced, though that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t be available to the portable console at some point in the future. After all, NBA 2K23 was released on the Nintendo eShop last year. 2K even offers both the Standard Edition and Michael Jordan Edition on the Switch.
As for NBA 2K24, the Standard release includes the base game, while the Kobe Bryant Edition and Black Mamba Edition will give players access to MyTeam and MyCareer bonuses, promo packs, tokens, and virtual currency. On top of that, the Black Mamba version will be bundled with a one-year NBA League Pass subscription, same as last year’s deluxe release.
NBA Hall of famer and Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, who wore the number 24 during his career with the Lakers, will grace the covers NBA 2K24: Kobe Bryant Edition and NBA 2K24: Black Mamba Edition. It’s an easy choice given Kobe’s impact on and off the basketball court.
