realme is no longer the Philippines’ top smartphone brand, according to the latest International Data Corporation report.

Replacing realme as the new top dog in town is Shenzhen-based Transsion Holdings, which operates three mobile brands in the country: TECNO, Infinix, and Itel. Of the three, TECNO contributed the most to Transsion’s success after growing 33% year on year and 107.8% quarter on quarter. The company was responsible for more than 50% of Transsion’s total shipments for the first quarter of 2023, surpassing Infinix’s share.

Collectively, Transsion captured 19.5% of the local smartphone market in Q1 2023, good enough for first place ahead of realme, which saw its market share drop to 18.7%. Transsion climbed to the top spot, in large part thanks to aggressive marketing campaigns for the TECNO SPARK and PHANTOM series, which cater to different price segments and customer needs.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, the company finished third in Canalys’ vendor rankings, and prior to that, it held the fourth spot in the third quarter of 2022. Transsion also topped the market-research firm’s Q1 2023 market-share report for the Philippines, based on a study we saw earlier.

realme was the biggest smartphone brand in the country for two consecutive years before it was dethroned by a fellow Chinese vendor. Taking the third and fourth spots after realme are OPPO and vivo, which grabbed 15.5% and 13.1% of the market, respectively, followed by Xiaomi with 11.9%. Samsung dropped from the top five, the local IDC rankings showed.

TECNO is set to unveil its Camon 20 lineup next month, June 6th, in the Philippines. The lineup will include the CAMON 20 Pro 5G and CAMON 20 Pro, which we spotted earlier on the brand’s flagship store on Lazada. The 5G model will be priced at P12,999 (around $231), while the Helio G99-based regular variant is expected to sell for P9,999 ($178).

The TECNO CAMON 20 Pro 5G will likely debut the MediaTek 8050 5G chipset in the country, alongside a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery that supports wired charging up to 33 watts, and a 64-megapixel main rear camera. It will also sport a 32-megapixel front camera for selfies.
