Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has added a new phone to its Note 12 smartphone line, following the international launch of the Redmi Note 12 series last week. The Redmi Note 12 Turbo made its debut in China as the first smartphone powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 5G chipset.

Redmi also announced a Harry Potter-themed edition of the Note 12 Turbo that includes a stylized box that looks like a spell book, a specially themed SIM-eject tool, and a custom case to match the rest of the package. You also get a Hogwarts acceptance letter that falls in line with the partnership, as this plays a vital role for the characters from the popular franchise.

In China, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo starts at ¥1,999 (around P15,799 or $291 converted) for the 8GB/256GB variant and goes up to ¥2,599 (P20,541 or $378) for the top-end version with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. The Harry Potter edition of the phone, on the other hand, is priced at ¥2,399 (P18,960 or $349) and comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The biggest highlight here is the performance; hence, the “Turbo” moniker to distinguish the phone from its stablemates and make it more appealing to hardcore gamers. And it probably won’t disappoint, too.

The brand says the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 processor inside the Redmi Note 12 Turbo uses the same 4nm TSMC process and CPU and GPU architecture as the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, in addition to boasting the same memory specifications and ISP as last year’s flagship chip from Qualcomm. This allows the phone to deliver flagship-level performance in daily usage and benchmark apps, including Antutu where the Redmi Note 12 Turbo achieved an overall score of 1,010,385 — highly impressive given the phone’s attractive base price.

If you’re not familiar with Antutu scores, topping the 1-million mark means the device in question is comparable to some of the fastest phones from last year. The Redmi Note 12 Turbo’s top score easily beats what modern midrange phones are capable of, even those released in 2023 like the vivo V27 5G, which is priced at P24,999 ($460) in the Philippines.

When playing graphics-intensive games, such as Genshin Impact, expect the Turbo edition to average around 60 fps (or more, depending on the title), which is practically unheard of in the budget and midrange segments.

Other notable specs include a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for Dolby Vision, a 5,000mAh battery that supports 67-watt fast charging, and a triple-camera module headlined by a 64-megapixel image sensor. The Redmi Note 12 Turbo also runs MIUI 14 based on Android 13 out of the box.
