Tecno Mobile has confirmed its attendance at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona, Spain, where the mobile brand will unveil its first foldable phone — and easily its most ambitious product yet — on February 28.

(Update, March 3: The Tecno Phantom V Fold is official, and we have our preview video of it!)

Tecno Phantom Vision V launch date spotted in MWC 2023 app by Revu Philippines

Tecno hasn’t mentioned the Tecno Phantom Vision V’s global launch date at press time yet, but the app for MWC 2023 attendees (we’ll be there!) already shows when the foldable device will be unveiled

The Tecno Phantom Vision V is a concept phone that combines a screen that bends one way with another screen that rolls out from its edges, similar to the experimental device that TCL debuted in 2021. This allows the Phantom Vision V to take the form of a 10-inch tablet, which would be more useful for entertainment and productivity apps than, say, foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and OPPO Find N2 with smaller displays.

The back of the phone sports a triple-camera setup as well as a small secondary display that can show alerts and always-on widgets to help users save battery power. Elsewhere, the Tecno Phantom Vision V features an aerospace-grade titanium-alloy frame along with a durable hinge mechanism with a patented design. The inner display is made up of 11 functional layers and extends up to 10.1 inches, making it suited for streaming videos, reading and editing documents, and scrolling through social media.

Can’t wait to see the Tecno Phantom Vision V at MWC 2023!

The size of the cover screen is unknown, but expect it to be around 6 inches diagonally. There is also no information on what processor the phone will have and how much battery capacity it has to offer, though those specs — whatever they are — are not really pertinent here. The Phantom Vision V, after all, will remain a phantom product albeit an exciting one.

Unfortunately, we may have to wait for a long time before a product like Tecno’s “fold and roll” prototype sees the light of day. As a concept phone, it is unlikely to be mass-produced at any time soon.
