New Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola inspired by ThinkPad PC line

More than eight years after Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility from Google, the two finally offer businesses a smartphone companion to the ThinkPad PC line.

The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola has been introduced at CES [Consumer Electronics Show] 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It pays homage to the ThinkPad; you can clearly see the similarities from the handset’s Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon series-like textured cover and iconic TrackPoint-like customizable red key. The launch of the ThinkPhone, after all, marks the 30th anniversary of the ThinkPad.

The new business-centric phone was designed to completely remove the friction of using a handset and PC together. Think instant connection of the two over WiFi. Think having a unified clipboard and notifications. Think seamless dragging and dropping of files between the ThinkPhone and a PC or opening an Android app directly on a ThinkPad device.

You may also use the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola’s 50-megapixel main camera or 13-megapixel ultrawide shooter as a webcam for your video calls or online meetings. These experiences are discussed in the video below.

The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola is about security as it is about boosting productivity. You get a complete suite of security and support features that Lenovo and Motorola say deliver seamless protection and full manageability backed by security platform ThinkShield.

There’s also Motorola’s Moto Threat Defense AI-based solution; Moto OEMConfig and Moto Device Manager for the easy management of devices; Moto Secure app; and Moto KeySafe for adding an extra layer of protection for sensitive data, such as PINs and passwords.

The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 5G chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It features a 6.6-inch 144Hz OLED screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, a 5,000mAh battery with support for 68-watt wired and 15-watt wireless fast charging, and an IP68 rating.

The unit ships with Android 13 out of the box and comes with Microsoft 365, Outlook, and Teams mobile apps preloaded. No price has been announced just yet, but we know that it will be available in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Australia, and select countries across Asia in the coming months.
