The independent hardware-testing company recently gave the Huawei Mate 50 Pro with XMAGE the highest overall camera score of 149, noting the smartphone’s “excellent camera experience” and “high-quality performance across most features, thanks to its combination of strong hardware and careful software tuning.”
The Mate 50 Pro made its global debut in September this year with a starting price of €1,299 (around P74,559 or $1,284) for the glass black and silver variants with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Huawei has yet to confirm the device’s launch in the Philippines, but the Mate 50 Pro will likely arrive in other international markets outside of Europe soon.
The Google Pixel 7 Pro and HONOR Magic4 Ultimate are now tied for second place with a global score of 147. Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, are tied at 146, but top the selfie-camera rankings.
In terms of use cases, Huawei’s latest flagship achieved the highest scores in Dxomark’s Friends & Family, Outdoor, Indoor, and Lowlight categories, citing its impressive overall results with regard to exposure, focus, and noise. It offers excellent zoom capabilities as well, with strong detail at various distances and lighting environments.
Notably, the phone’s autofocus score benefited greatly from its new adjustable-aperture feature, especially in group portraits. Zoom quality is another high point, as the Huawei Mate 50 Pro takes advantage of three camera modules with super-resolution and fusion algorithms to preserve detail across the primary, ultrawide, and zoom cameras.
On the rear, the Huawei flagship includes a 50-megapixel camera with f/1.4 to f/4.0 adjustable aperture and OIS; a 13-megapixel, f/2.2 ultrawide option; and a 64-megapixel telephoto shooter with f/3.5 aperture lens and OIS. For selfies, the handset gets a 13-megapixel ultrawide cam that is joined by a 3D ToF sensor, which allows for a more secure face unlock and other features.
Inside, the Mate 50 Pro is powered by the 4G variant of Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, so expect class-leading performance when it comes to day-to-day tasks and gaming as well.
