The new Xiaomi 12T series is tipped to launch next week, although it’s not yet known when that will take place. It’s likely to happen soon given a couple of recent developments, including the specifications and pricing leak for the upcoming Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro.

(Update, October 4: The Xiaomi 12T series have been launched globally!)

(Update, September 30: We have the Xiaomi 12T series’ global launch date!)

Okay, that’s the good news; now, let’s deal with this one: Both models are heavily rumored to be considerably more expensive than their predecessors.

We previously wrote that the Xiaomi 12T Pro, in particular, appeared on the Google Play Console in August. The listing revealed a high-end smartphone powered by a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 5G chipset coupled with 12GB RAM, a 2,712 x 1,220 screen, and Android 12. This further suggested that the phone might just be a rebadged Redmi K50 Ultra for international markets, except it will probably be equipped with a 200-megapixel main rear camera instead of a 108-megapixel one.

The latest leak gives us press images of both Xiaomi 12T series smartphones, as well as their key specs. It also alleges that the vanilla 12T might cost €649 (around P37,059 or $650) in Europe, matching the price of the Xiaomi 11T Pro at launch. The 12T Pro, on the other hand, could be priced at least €849 (P48,480 or $850) in the same region.

This establishes a €200 (P11,420 or $200) gap between the two models, although to be fair, the Xiaomi 12T Pro bumps up the specs on the standard edition in ways that will appeal to power users with deeper pockets. Both should come with 128GB and 256GB storage options, alongside 8GB of RAM on the 12T and 8GB or 12GB RAM on the 12T Pro.

They likewise have identical 6.67-inch AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection and 5,000mAh batteries that support fast charging up to 120 watts. Their designs are similar as well.

Where the two phones differ is in the primary rear cameras and the chipset. On top of Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, the Xiaomi 12T Pro should debut with a 200-megapixel image sensor — the first on a Xiaomi device. The sensor is none other than the Samsung Isocell HP1 unit that debuted on the Motorola X30 Pro. It measures 1/1.22 inches and does 16-in-1 pixel binning. It can also output 50-megapixel stills with 1.28μm individual pixels and even the full resolution with 0.64μm-sized pixels.

The regular version, on the other hand, pairs a 108-megapixel main sensor with a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Ultra processor. It’s unclear what changes or improvements the new chip will bring over the standard Dimensity 8100, but it could simply come down to clock speeds.
