What a great 2021 Realme Philippines had, as can be seen in a market-research firm’s most recent data.
According to Canalys, the brand ended the year at the top of the local smartphone-vendor rankings — both in the fourth quarter of 2021 and the full 12 months last year. It is a feat, considering Realme is relatively young, having entered the Philippine market only in November 2018.
The good news could not have come at a better time; Realme is set to launch its sub-brand DIZO in the country February 11.
Q4 2021 smartphone-vendor rankings in the Philippines
It was Realme’s fourth consecutive quarter to top the local smartphone space. The company was one of three brands in the top 5 to have grown annually.
However, it was Transsion Holdings, which owns Infinix Mobile and Tecno Mobile, that enjoyed the highest growth at 228%. That was enough for a third-place finish — and at the expense of Xiaomi. Of the five biggest smartphone vendors in the Philippines in the third quarter of 2021, only the latter failed to make it to the list.
2021 smartphone-company rankings in the Philippines
Realme surged 19% year on year in 2021 and ended the period with a 23% market share.
And while the fourth quarter was not favorable to Xiaomi, the full 2021 was; Xiaomi enjoyed an annual increase of 103% and a unit share of 11%, which was good for a fifth position.
Fellow BBK Electronics brands Vivo and OPPO landed second and third, respectively, while South Korea’s Samsung Electronics rounded out the top 5.
