Samsung has finally confirmed that its next Unpacked event will be held in February, confirming earlier reports that the Korean tech giant plans to launch its flagship Galaxy S22 series next month.

The exact date for the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event hasn’t been revealed. But in a blog post, Samsung president and head of MX Business TM Roh said that the company will launch “the most noteworthy S series device” yet, adding that its upcoming flagship will be “bringing together the greatest experiences of our Samsung Galaxy into one ultimate device.”

Galaxy S + Galaxy Note = Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra?

That sounds an awful lot like confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will introduce some Galaxy Note features to the manufacturer’s top-shelf Galaxy smartphone. Samsung’s teaser for Galaxy Unpacked 2022 also suggests the marriage of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines, further supporting claims of a Galaxy S22 Ultra with an angular Note-like look and a slot for an S Pen stylus.

Leaked renders of the Galaxy S22 Ultra have shown a design language reminiscent of the Galaxy Note 20 in four colors alongside a color-matching S Pen.

With regard to the chipset, it’s unclear if the phone will adopt the latest Exynos 2200 SoC with an AMD RDNA 2-powered Xclipse GPU or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.

According to tipster Dohyun Kim on Twitter, the Galaxy S22 series will see both flagship chipsets, but interestingly, more regions will get a Snapdragon model than before.

This is based on firmware development, so by “Exynos & Snapdragon”, I mean that there are both Exynos and Snapdragon firmware.

Could this be confirmation that the rumors were true, and that the Exynos 2200 failed to impress in initial benchmarks, thus pushing Samsung to acquire more Snapdragon chips than earlier anticipated? It certainly looks that way. Now you have to wonder if the Exynos 2200 can actually live up to the hype considering Samsung’s alleged decision to rely more on Qualcomm this time around.
