Cross-platform gaming just got a push from the big G itself.
Announced in December 2021 at the Game Awards event, the Google Play Games standalone application for PC is now in limited beta in select countries. Players in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan who are interested in playing Android games on Windows PC may now sign up to join Google’s beta program for the app. Testers can initially try more than 25 games, including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration, and Summoners War. Their PCs should meet these minimum requirements, though:
- Windows 10 (v2004)
- Solid state drive (SSD)
- 20 GB of available storage space
- Gaming-class GPU
- 8 logical CPU cores
- 8 GB of RAM
- Windows admin account
- Hardware virtualization must be turned on
- Compatible PC device and configuration
Besides letting users take advantage of mobile games on a bigger screen with optimized graphics and keyboard and mouse input, Google Play Games for PC also promises seamless sync across devices. You should be able to start playing on your Android phone, then pick up where you left off on your Windows laptop or desktop — your progress and achievements will be synchronized. You should be able to earn Play Points as well.

The American technology giant did not reveal the app’s official availability just yet, but it did say that the release date will vary among regions. It also announced that the beta will “expand to other regions later in 2022 and beyond.” Hopefully, the Philippines is one of the markets that will get to try it this year.
