Realme apparently sold a lot of 5G smartphones this previous quarter.
According to Counterpoint Research’s monthly Market Pulse study, the brand posted an incredible 831% growth year on year versus the entire 5G market, which grew at 121% from July to September. Realme’s success in the 5G space allowed it to retain the sixth spot in global 5G Android smartphone sales for the second consecutive quarter.
OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi also performed well, posting triple-digit growth in the 5G market during the same period. All four Chinese brands were able to outperform the market. Apple is still the current 5G leader despite only entering the market in the fourth quarter of 2020 with the release of the iPhone 12 series.
Unsurprisingly, Realme and its Chinese peers share a diversified portfolio of entry-level and midrange 5G models that appeal to a wider audience. In the Philippines, the Realme 8 5G is one of the most affordable 5G smartphones, priced as low as P10,990 (around $215) for the base variant.
Counterpoint notes that much of Realme’s growth could be attributed to its sales in China, India, and Europe. In India, Realme’s 5G sales achieved an astronomical 9,519% year-on-year growth — the highest among all regions. The market analyst says that “affordability and accessibility” will continue to be key factors for 5G sales moving forward.
That said, don’t expect to see Realme fall behind the competition, with the company expected to offer a strong roster of 5G devices, beginning with the anticipated January 4 launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered Realme GT 2 Pro.
