Apple‘s big OS updates for its different devices are finally ready for the general public.
iOS 15 for smartphones, iPadOS 15 for tablets, and watchOS 8 for smartwatches are now available as free software updates. Is your iProduct (or products) one of the supported units? Check out the compatible devices below:
- iOS 15
- iPhone 6s and later
- iPadOS 15
- iPad mini 4 and later
- iPad Air 2 and later
- iPad 5th generation and later
- All iPad Pro models
- watchOS 8
- Apple Watch Series 3 models and later
This is what we love about Apple. If you have an old unit, chances are it’s still being supported via software upgrades. The iPhone 6s, for example, is a six-year-old handset and yet it’s still eligible for iOS 15. This is likely one of the reasons Apple’s products don’t depreciate fast.
So, how do you download the update, in case your mobile, tablet, or smartwatch is supported and has already been backed up?
For iPhones and iPads, the process is the same. You click on these: Settings > General > Software Update > Learn More > Upgrade to iOS 15 or Upgrade to iPadOS 15 > Download and Install. The system will then prompt you to enter your passcode, if you have any. Then you will have to go over the terms and conditions and click on Agree. That’s it. The process took us about 40 minutes to complete.

For Apple watches, you do it through the Apple Watch app on the iPhone. Click on My Watch, then General, and finally, Software Update. Remember that your watch should have at least 50% battery life, connected to a magnetic charger, and in the range of the iPhone.
Some of the new iOS 15 features include audio and video enhancements, like spatial audio, to FaceTime; Focus for reducing distractions by filtering notifications based on what you want to focus on in a particular moment, e.g. Work Focus; and Shared with You, which can be found in Photos, Safari, Apple News, Music, Apple Podcasts, and the Apple TV app and shows the pictures, stories, songs, and other content shared by your contacts in Messages.
