We haven’t seen a flagship OPPO smartphone after 2014’s N3, which had the tech community buzzing about its motorized, rotating camera. In 2015, OPPO Philippines launched a number of devices, including the OPPO Joy 3, Mirror 5, R7 Lite, R7 Plus, and Neo 7 — all devices aimed at the low or midrange market.
A year is a long time in the fast-paced world of mobile phones, so it’s about time for a new king of premium in OPPO’s portfolio, don’t you think? Which is why recent leaks surrounding the upcoming OPPO Find 9 are as expected as they are urgent.
Photos and specs that have surfaced on China’s Weibo social network suggest a near-bezel-less handset with a sleek design and a metal frame, plus a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 6GB of RAM in tow. It looks a bit like the OnePlus 2, to be honest, which isn’t surprising given the history between OPPO and OnePlus. Images leaked by the tipster also hints at the possibility that the Find 9 will ship with ColorOS 3.1 on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

OPPO still hasn’t announced a launch date for the Find 9 yet or shown off a prototype of the device, so take this news with a good amount of skepticism. My guess is that OPPO has delayed the product to 2016, fearing allegations of heat issues with last year’s Snapdragon 810, and that we’ll hear something official about the Find 9 in the coming months.
If indeed OPPO is planning to launch something that has 6GB of RAM and looks as good as the tipster says it is, perhaps it will be worth the wait — and the expense.
