Surprise, surprise: Another POCO phone will hit stores soon. This time, the red carpet will roll out for the POCO M3 Pro 5G on May 19. It will launch with the tagline “More speed. More everything.”

(Update, May 15: The POCO M3 Pro 5G listing has been spotted in the Philippines ahead of the phone’s global launch!)

The successor to last year’s M2 Pro will be POCO’s third device of 2021 after the POCO X3 Pro and POCO F3 and the first 5G-ready smartphone in the budget M series. Both the X3 Pro and F3 are officially available in the Philippines, so it’s highly likely that the M3 Pro 5G will launch at local retail as well.

POCO M3 Pro 5G global-launch announcement

According to the former Xiaomi sub-brand, the POCO M3 Pro 5G will be powered by a 5G-capable MediaTek chipset, which is significantly faster than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 in the regular M3. In POCO’s internet testing, the M3 Pro 5G scored 329,072 points in the Antutu Benchmark app, compared to 301,635 posted by the standard model.

And while it won’t be marketed as a gaming device — POCO has the X and F series, anyway — the upcoming smartphone will sport a high-refresh display. Additionally, the M3 Pro 5G is going to have more RAM out of the box and faster storage, as well as more color options versus the M3.

Its rumored specs sheet suggests the POCO M3 Pro 5G could come with the following:

  • a 6.5-inch 90Hz LCD;
  • a MediaTek Dimensity 700 silicon with built-in 5G;
  • 6GB RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage;
  • triple rear cameras with a 48-megapixel main sensor;
  • a side-mounted fingerprint scanner;
  • a 5,000mAh battery that supports 22.5-watt fast charging; and
  • POCO’s latest UI on top of Android 11.

As for the design, the POCO M3 features a unique look despite being a budget handset, so it’s not surprising to hear some talk about the possibility of the Pro variant debuting with a never-before-seen design as well.

Supposed renders show the phone sporting a company logo in the same vertical half-bar as the back-facing camera module. It reminds us somewhat of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, minus the large vertical branding.

This is supposedly the POCO M3 Pro 5G. The feature image comes from leakster Ishan Agarwal, too
