Huawei is launching new Nova smartphones two days before Christmas… in China.
(Update, December 23: The Huawei Nova 8 and Huawei Nova 8 Pro are official! See their respective prices and specs here.)

The Nova 8 series — believed to include the Huawei Nova 8 and Huawei Nova 8 Pro — is scheduled to go official December 23. That’s a bit later than last year’s announcement date of the Nova 6 lineup, which was unveiled December 5, 2019. Only the Nova 6 SE arrived in the Philippines as the Huawei Nova 7i. The reasonably priced Nova 7 SE 5G and Nova 7 5G got released here, though.
In the first launch teaser the company posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo, you’ll clearly see that the camera module on the back is oval. This seemingly confirms an earlier leak showing that the Honor V40 and Nova 8 lines have the same sensor arrangement, but that the two have different shapes of the module.

The second launch teaser featuring Chinese celebrity Jackson Yee, which you can see here, doesn’t show anything that much. All we can make out the Nova 8 is for vlogging and that the unit in the video is silver.
Huawei hasn’t confirmed the front design of the upcoming Nova models, but word has it that the regular variant features a flat, dual-punch-hole screen while the Nova 8 Pro gets a curved one. Both have high refresh rates.
With the company’s problem with the United States government, we’re not even sure if we’ll find a Kirin chipset inside the Huawei Nova 8 series. Well, the launch happens in a little over a week, so the wait for confirmation shouldn’t be long.
