This is it! Today’s a good day for those who have been waiting for more information on the local availability of Sony’s new console.

Sony Entertainment Interactive Singapore Private Limited has shared with us that the Sony PlayStation 5 will be launched in the Philippines December 11. But no, the cheaper PS5 Digital Edition, which is priced at $399.99 (about P19,324 converted) abroad, won’t arrive in the country. Only the version with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be released here — and for P27,990 ($579).

As of today, November 11, local retailers that have posted about offering the PlayStation 5 include DataBlitz, i.TECH, Gameline, Game One, and GameXtreme, though only the latter has explicitly said that it will accept online preorders only. Our guess is that most, if not all, of them will do just that to avoid crowds at physical stores, especially now that we’re in the middle of a pandemic. Let’s wait for official word from SIE — or follow the retailers’ social media updates.

To be launched alongside the PS5 console in the Philippines are the following accessories:

• Pulse 3D wireless headset (with 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones): P5,590 ($116)
• DualSense Wireless Controller (standalone): P3,990 ($83)
• HD Camera (with two 1080p lenses for livestreaming): P3,290 ($68)
• DualSense Charging Station (to easily charge two DualSense Wireless Controllers): P1,690 ($35)

The company has revealed that Astro’s Playroom is already preinstalled on the Sony PlayStation 5. It has also released the local prices of these other exclusive PS5 titles from SIE Worldwide Studios:

• Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games/Japan Studio): P3,490 ($72)
• Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac Games): P2,490 ($52)
• Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac Games): P3,490 ($72)
• Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital/XDEV): P2,990 ($62)

The new generation of PS5 plays as good as it looks — at least based on in-game footage we’ve seen so far. It runs on a custom AMD-based CPU and GPU that deliver 4K graphics and ray-tracing support. It likewise features a high-speed SSD with integrated I/O this time around for faster loading times.
