SkyCable rolls out up to 300Mbps broadband service in Metro Manila

You may have heard that local Internet service providers PLDT and Globe Telecom are now offering ultra-fast fiber broadband service to residents in select upscale condominiums and communities in Metro Manila.

What may have escaped your notice, however, is that SkyCable has also updated its broadband offerings to lure higher-paying customers who want faster Internet speeds sans the constraints of a monthly data cap.

SkyCable’s broadband offers should be available to more Metro Manila residents, as opposed to fiber connections that have limited reach at the moment.

SkyCable’s high-speed and unlimited subscriptions start at P2,000 a month for 16Mbps speeds and goes up to P30,000 monthly for 300Mbps speeds. All subscriptions come with a 24-month lock-in and free access to video-streaming platforms HBO Go and Sky On Demand.

Those prices may sound steep, at least compared to Globe’s fiber-based offers, which start at P2,500 for a 50Mbps connection, but do take note that SkyCable’s existing broadband network relies on coaxial cables, not fiber-optic cables, to transmit data.

That means it should be available to more Metro Manila residents, including current SkyCable customers, as opposed to fiber-to-the-home connections that have limited reach at the moment.
