Globe Telecom has earlier announced its P1,799 data plan for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus, leaving existing and would-be Smart subscribers to wonder what this year’s iPhone upgrade holds. Well, they can wonder no more: Smart has now made official its postpaid pricing for the latest iPhones, which will be available beginning November 6.

But here’s the bad news for those who want to get the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus from the biggest telco provider in the Philippines: It will cost them more this year than the previous one. Never mind that Smart is being coy with specific details about its offers. There’s very little information on its preorder page; not even a word about off-contract prices.

Last year, Smart made the 16GB iPhone 6 and 16GB iPhone 6 Plus available for P1,799 and P2,049, respectively. Its new deals for the base model of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus start at P2,000 and P2,499, with an upfront cost of P6,000 for the former and P4,000 for the latter.

Thankfully, those upfront fees are waived if the customer is willing to extend the standard 24-month lock-in to 30 months, which seems fair enough.

Both P2,000 and P2,499 subscriptions include 10GB of consumable data per month, voice-call minutes, and text messages to all networks, along with free access to an app of their choice, such as Facebook, Instagram, Viber, WhatsApp, and Line, a 3-month trial for iflix, with 1GB of data for streaming movies and TV shows on the video-on-demand platform. Customers also get free 30-day insurance for their brand-spanking-new handset.

Early adopters who desperately want to be one of the first people in the country to get their hands on the iPhone 6s and also want to avoid facing the suckiness of Friday traffic and long lines can fire up the Uber app to have the handset delivered to their homes free of charge when the clock strikes 12:01 a.m. on November 6. It could even be a great remote for those who are interested in getting Home Automation or other awesome technology things they might be able to do with their new iPhones.

Of course, the latest iPhones are also on offer to Smart Infinity subscribers who can get a 128GB iPhone 6s or two units of the 16GB variant under consumable plans that start at P5,000 a month.

As is usual for Apple’s “s” upgrade, the latest iPhones retain the form factor of their 2014 counterparts but carry several substantial improvements, including a faster processor with 2GB of RAM, a higher-megapixel rear camera that’s capable of shooting up to 4K video, and a pressure-sensing Retina HD display, which brings up action menus depending on the amount of force applied to the screen.

Apple recently declared 2015 its “best year ever” amid surging iPhone sales. The most successful company in the world reported that revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter grew to $51.5 billion, up from $42.1 billion during the same period last year. $32.2 billion of Apple’s earnings in the fourth quarter came from its smartphone business.
