5G is now available to all Globe and TM customers with compatible devices in select locations in the Philippines.

Earlier today, Globe Telecom announced that its 5G service is finally switched on for prepaid users to take advantage of, provided they own a 5G-enabled smartphone. Recall that the company first rolled out its 5G service to Globe Platinum subscribers back in February.

Globe prepaid and TM customers can get access to 5G networks in select areas around Metro Manila, including Bonifacio Global City, Makati Central Business District, Rockwell Center, Ortigas CBD, and strategic spots on EDSA and C5.

Outside of Metro Manila, Globe is expected to roll out its 5G infrastructure beginning 2021.

It’s also worth mentioning here that you don’t need to upgrade your SIM card to enjoy a 5G signal. No additional fee will be incurred by users as well.

The current lineup of 5G phones officially supported by Globe’s new service include the following:

  • Huawei P40 Pro Plus
  • Huawei P40 Pro
  • Huawei P40
  • Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G
  • Huawei Mate Xs
  • Huawei Nova 7 SE
  • Huawei Nova 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 20
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

Other 5G devices like the OPPO Find X2 Pro and Vivo X50 Pro may be compatible with Globe’s 5G service as well.

If you’re not familiar, 5G is the latest wireless network standard, promising fiber-like speeds, better coverage, and much lower latency than previous standards. 5G also has a higher capacity than 4G, which partially explains Globe’s revamped prepaid promos with bigger data allocations.

Smart Communications is also busy rolling out its 5G service in targeted areas. But as of now, it’s limited to postpaid customers with 5G-activated SIMs.
