(UPDATE, November 5: The Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update for the Cherry Mobile One G1 is now available for download. You can use this guide to manually update your One G1 — that is, if you haven’t already.)
Google, in case you haven’t been paying attention, has released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow over-the-air (OTA) update to first-generation Android One phones (sorry, Cherry Mobile One G1 owners). That said, the update should automatically reach your handset.
But if you haven’t received the notification yet, there’s no reason to fret about it because you can manually install the OTA package by following this guide.
A few notes before we proceed:
1. This guide works for the Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone Uno only.
2. Your device should be running the latest Android Lollipop build (LMY48M), and it should have the stock recovery installed.
3. You need a microSD card for this guide to be useful and a means to transfer the Marshmallow update file to that SD card (I suggest using a Windows-based desktop or laptop).
4. The update takes about 15 minutes to install so make sure your phone has enough battery to last through the process; anywhere above 50 percent is recommended.

Now that those stuff are out of the way, here’s how you can manually upgrade your first-gen Android One phone to Android 6.0 Marshmallow:
1. Download the appropriate OTA package for your Android One handset. (MyPhone Uno: http://bit.ly/1FTXG68; Cherry Mobile One: http://bit.ly/1OmFIKs)
2. Connect your handset to a PC or use a file manager to transfer the file you downloaded to your device’s SD card.
3. Turn off your device.
4. Boot into Recovery Mode by holding down the volume up button and then pressing and holding down the power button.
5. You should immediately see a screen that looks like this:

6. Use the volume up and down buttons to select Recovery Mode.
7. You should see an image of the Android mascot and the words “No command” written below it.

8. Hold down the power button and then press the volume up button.
9. You’ll now see Android One’s Recovery Mode screen after a few seconds. It looks like this:

10. Use the volume and power buttons to select “Apply update from SD card” and choose the file you downloaded and transferred to the microSD card.

11. Sit back and wait for the system update to finish installing. Once the installation process is done, your device will automatically reboot.
12. High-five yourself! Your phone is now running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
