Ready for a handset with eight cameras in total? Huawei might just release one in the near future.

In a patent filing spotted on the site of CNIPA [China National Intellectual Property Administration], there’s a design of a Huawei smartphone with two front sensors and six rear-facing shooters.

The dual selfie camera is placed in a pill-shaped cutout on the upper-left side of the screen, not unlike the one on the upcoming Huawei P40 series. The display seems to be flat.

The sensors on the back, on the other hand, are lumped together in a rectangular module positioned at the top-center of the rear panel. The camera bump is considerable.

At the bottom of the unit lie the card slot, the USB port, and the speaker grille. The upper part, meanwhile, has a microphone and what could be an IR blaster.

As with other patented designs, this might not make it past the concept stage. Patents don’t always result in actual products, after all. But it’s still interesting to see the ideas that phone manufacturers like Huawei are testing.

If you want upcoming actual handsets, there’s always the Huawei P40 series that’s confirmed to launch in March in Paris, France, and the Huawei Mate XS, whose announcement is purportedly scheduled February 24 online and offline, in Barcelona, Spain, where we are supposed to be now had it not been for the novel coronavirus outbreak. In the Philippines, there’s no word yet on what the next model Huawei will release.
