After launching in Thailand, the Huawei Y7p — one of the most affordable phones on the market with a 48-megapixel camera — will get a local release. We just received word from the tech giant that it will be unveiled in the Philippines soon. This month actually.

(Update, February 17: And it’s launched! Read Huawei Y7p with 48MP cam, punch-hole screen priced at P9,990 [$198].)

The Y7p follows the launch of the Huawei Y6s and Y9s in recent weeks, and, like the other two, it is a value-focused offering. The focus this time is photography, with the smartphone sporting a 48-megapixel sensor on the back, next to an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor in the same vertical module.

Also notably, the Huawei Y7p fronts a 6.39-inch, HD+ LCD screen with a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a punch hole on the upper-left side to maximize the screen real estate, just like on the Nova 5T. There’s an 8-megapixel selfie camera in the cutout up top.

Powering the Huawei Y7p is the company’s own Kirin 710F processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. This makes the Y7p one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, Huawei handsets with a Kirin 710F under the hood. Also inside is a 4,000mAh battery that supports 10-watt charging over microUSB. The phone ships with EMUI 9.1 software baked in, on top of Android 9.0 Pie.

The Y7p is available in Aurora Blue and Midnight Black colors. In Thailand, it’s priced at ฿4,999 or around P8,121 in Philippine pesos and $161 in U.S. dollars. As usual, we’ll do a follow-up story on the local launch of the phone as soon as it becomes official, so check back in about a week for the confirmed pricing and availability details.
