Lenovo looks to be developing a gaming phone under its Legion brand — if its new Weibo account is anything to go by. The company has set up a dedicated social media account for Legion, which seems to focus on the mobile platform.
The account on the Chinese social network has been verified and is owned by Lenovo Mobile Communications Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., suggesting that the computer vendor plans to introduce a Legion-branded gaming phone. The videos and posts published there also indicate that a handset is in the pipeline. But Lenovo has yet to acknowledge it itself.

The company has already launched some gaming-centric phones in China, but those were introduced as “Lenovo.” Now, it seems the company is looking to separate its mobile-gaming efforts and bring it into the line it launched in January 2017, which is now made up of gaming PCs and accessories. This is something that ASUS did for its Republic of Gamers or ROG brand.

Lenovo has reportedly confirmed there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus smartphone in the works, but we haven’t heard anything about it so far. And since the 855 Plus is a platform mostly dedicated to gaming, speculation is that the Legion gaming handset could be powered by this chipset — or perhaps the newer Snapdragon 865. For now, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for any updates.

On the more official ground, we can say that Lenovo’s mobile division plans to return the Philippines in the new year. It’s been almost two years since it launched a new smartphone in the Philippines, but we’ve gotten confirmation that Lenovo is coming back to the country with new devices in tow as early as the first quarter of 2020.
