Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi is all set to launch the Redmi K30 with a router and smart speaker in China on December 10. And just ahead of its unveiling, we learn that the phone might get a “world’s first high-resolution image sensor.”

Redmi general manager Lu Weibing teased that the device will come with a class-leading image sensor, but he didn’t reveal anything beyond that.

Reports suggest that the K30 could have Sony’s IMX686, which is a 60-megapixel sensor that is reportedly coming to devices like the Realme X50 5G and the Huawei Nova 6 5G (we sense a pattern here).

It also confirms that the handset will come with dual-mode 5G support. That means it can support both standalone and non-standalone connectivity, which will make the Redmi K30 the first dual-mode 5G phone from the company.

Recent speculations about the device counter some earlier leaks, particularly when it comes to the processor powering the phone. Instead of a MediaTek processor, a new 5G-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 series chip, along with an Adreno 618 GPU, could power the standard Redmi K30.

It is also expected to have a 6.66-inch display with a 2,400 x 1,080 resolution Full HD+ display and possibly a 120Hz refresh rate. The device could get a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. And since it’s coming out around this time, the Redmi K30 is expected to run Android 10 out of the box, with the new MIUI 11 skinned on top of it.

One other thing worth looking into is the possibility of a Redmi K30 Pro launching alongside the standard option.

Weibing recently posted on Weibo to congratulate MediaTek for the launch of its high-end mobile SoC, the Dimensity 1000 5G processor. His post on the Chinese microblogging site was even done from a K30 handset, further fueling the speculation.

Redmi has previously worked with MediaTek for its Redmi Note 8 Pro, which was powered by the G90T chipset. So, it won’t be farfetched to think that the Dimensity 1000 5G SoC will be used by the Redmi K30 Pro.
