It looks like OPPO is joining the likes of Samsung, Huawei, and Apple as phone manufacturers that have designed or use an in-house mobile processor.
OPPO reportedly filed a trademark application on November 20 with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for the term “OPPO M1,” which has a description that says it’s for or related to a mobile processor.
Word has it that the company approached engineers from Spreadtrum and MediaTek to develop the chipset for them.

With OPPO investing heavily in research and development, this development does not come as a surprise. It will undoubtedly benefit their devices if they use a processor specifically designed for their needs.
If true, the chances of hearing about the OPPO M1 could be at the Mobile World Congress technology show in Barcelona, Spain, in February 2020. MWC is the launching pad of OPPO innovations like SuperVOOC fast charging and 10x lossless zoom.
Or we’d probably learn about the OPPO M1 at Semicon China in March or MWC in Shanghai in June.
We could hear more about the OPPO M1 at MWC, the launching pad of OPPO technologies like SuperVOOC and 10x lossless zoom. Or maybe at the December 16 event in Malaysia that we’re covering
Or we could hear more as soon as next month. OPPO Philippines invited us at Revü to a December 16 event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where they will inaugurate the OPPO Asia Pacific Region Main Hub.
We’re expecting to know more about the OPPO Reno 3 5G, their 5G developments, and ColorOS 7. Who knows, they’ll tease the M1 as well, as the invite highlights talks about “advanced tech innovations to expect in 2020 and more.”
