ASUS Philippines officially unveiled its new gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 2, and introduced alongside it the ROG Phone 2 Ultimate Edition. The latter will retail for P59,995 ($1,162) for its 12GB/1TB configuration, while the standard model (12GB/512GB) is priced at P49,995 (around $968).

There isn’t much of a difference between the two handsets. They share almost all the specs, except the Ultimate Edition has more storage and promises up to 2Gbps 4G LTE (Cat 20) downloads instead of up to 1.2Gbps speed, which the standard model offers.
The ASUS ROG Phone 2 comes equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus processor with Adreno 640 GPU, which promises to be 15 percent faster than what’s offered in the standard Snapdragon 855 chipset.

The company introduced the GameCool II 3D vapor chamber with the ROG Phone 2 to help effectively manage and remove heat from the device. It works in tandem with the bundled Aero Case. And it’s designed to be quiet with a 24dBA noise level, which is said to be four times quieter than the original version.
The gaming-centric handset has a 120Hz/1ms AMOLED 10-bit HDR 6.59-inch display with 49ms touch latency for instant responsiveness. It’s covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
ASUS also updated the ROG Phone‘s touch controls with the AirTrigger II, which offers 20ms vibration latency. It now supports tap and slide motions with fine-tuned feedback to provide a console-like button feel. With Dual Surrounding Vibration technology, the ROG Phone 2 promises powerful 3D force-feedback, too.

To make sure you can game for hours on end, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 has a 6,000mAh battery. It comes with the 30W ROG HyperCharge power adapter for safe, ultra-fast direct charging. ASUS promises up to 66 percent charge in just 58 minutes. The phone can power up other devices as well if you need it to. It has two USB-C charging ports (one on the side and one at the bottom), so you can keep it plugged in while you play in landscape mode.
On the audio side, the ROG Phone 2 offers dual-front facing speakers for better stereo experience while in landscape mode. And if you want it, there’s still a 3.5mm headphone jack here.
But the ROG Phone 2 experience is only as good as the accessories that come with the phone.
There’s the new TwinView Dock II that retails for P14,995 ($290). It gives you dual-screen gaming experience with the additional 6.59-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with 2,340 x 1,080 resolution. It can be used for everything from split-screen live-streaming and extended display to group communication. It’s lighter than the previous generation and has a new turbo-fan cooling system and high-capacity 5,000mAh battery pack.
There’s also the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con-like ROG Kunai Gamepad, which costs P6,995 ($135). It comes in three parts: the ROG Kunai Bumper, ROG Kunai Controllers, and ROG Kunai Holder. The two-part Kunai Controllers can be attached to the Kunai Holder to turn it into a standalone gamepad. Or it can be combined with the Kunai Bumper to add physical gamepad controls to the unit itself.
The standard ROG Phone 2 is now available at ROG Concept Stores, while the ROG Phone 2 Ultimate Edition will hit the local market in November 2019. The accessories are available exclusively at ROG Concept Stores.
